Restoration workshop

The establishment and operation of the Restoration Workshop is intended as a long-term cooperation between VSB-TU Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian Region. When repairing historical motorcycles, among other things, students' final theses will be created and then there will be a specialization focused on the preservation of historical vehicles. Graduates will become specialists in technical cultural heritage and in the ways how to handle the exhibits. VSB-TU Ostrava will be the first in the Czech Republic to teach this accredited specialization.

We are glad that all the necessary activities, such as structural changes to the premises, and the acquisition of the necessary equipment, machines, instruments and tools, have already been completed and we can fully devote ourselves to carrying out restoration work using modern technologies such as 3D scanning, 3D printing and the creation and visualization of 3D models (in cooperation with other workplaces at VSB-TU Ostrava). Further information can be found on the website of the Restoration Workshop.

Laboratory of Technical Diagnostics

The Technical Diagnostics Laboratory is equipped not only with instruments for determining the operating states of machines and equipment but especially for monitoring the quality of lubricants and fuels. From the field of tribodidiagnostics we can mention tests to determine the following properties: Kinematic viscosity at 40°C or 100°C (CSN EN ISO 3104), the Viscosity index (CSN ISO 2909), TAN (acid value) (CSN ISO 6618), Water content coulometrically according to K.F (CSN EN ISO 12937), Mechanical impurities (CSN 65 6220), Purity code microscopically (CSN ISO 4406, CSN 65 6206, NAS 1 638, AS 4059, GOST 1 7216), Element analysis XRF (total 48 elements), IR spectrometry, Density (CSN EN ISO 3675), Cleveland flash point (CSN EN ISO 2592), Determination of the distillation curve (CSN EN ISO 3405), Flowability point up to -24°C, to -42°C, over -42°C (CSN ISO 3016), Determination of filterability CFPP (CSN EN 116), Determination of grease penetration (CSN ISO 2137), Grease dropping point determination (CSN ISO 2176).

CAD Systems Classrooms

Logically, designing today is no longer about using a drawing board, tracing paper, a hard pencil and technical pens filled with black ink, but about powerful computers with the installation of appropriate CAD software. This is one of the reasons why the Department of Machine and Industrial Design has been operating two computer classrooms for years, which underwent a major reconstruction in 2020.

The first room (classroom 1) has the layout of a classic computer classroom with a capacity of 18 workplaces equipped with PCs, 24" monitors and 2 places for lecturers. The speciality of the classroom is its 10 display units shared by 2 workplaces (one table with a holder, the so-called cactus), on which lecturers present the subject matter, which significantly increases the comfort of work of all people involved. The equipment also includes a display unit and a "board" mounted on the front wall, an HP Large Format Colour Plotter and places to work using your laptop.

The second room (classroom 2) is designed for seminar work or work meetings and its arrangement corresponds to this purpose. In addition to the classic 10 workstations each equipped with a PC with 24" monitors (including 5 display units), the classroom also has the space for joint discussions. It consists of 10 seats around a large table with the possibility of connecting your laptops as well as the ability to run presentations on a large display unit.

And beware, this classroom, outside the ESS, is also personally guarded by our Designer Lojza.
