Selected staff members of the Department of Machine and Industrial Design, together with the management of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at VSB–Technical University of Ostrava, visited the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant (ETE). During the visit, they had a unique opportunity to enter the otherwise publicly inaccessible containment area of the second reactor unit during its scheduled outage.
The programme also included discussions on the future cooperation between ETE and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at VSB–TUO, not only in the field of education and in connection with the planned Nuclear Energy study programme, but also in relation to the application of maintenance and technical diagnostics in this dynamically developing industry.
Properly implemented maintenance and technical diagnostics helped ETE maintain selected peripheral equipment of the power plant in the required operational condition, allowing the scheduled outage to proceed according to the established time schedule. Thanks in part to the cooperation with the Department of Machine and Industrial Design, which assisted in the implementation of these maintenance and technical diagnostics methods, ETE achieved estimated savings of CZK 80–100 million.
