Summary
During metal printing, the source powder around the fused material is exposed to high temperatures, oxidation and other chemical processes that determine its properties. One of the few explored issues concerning 3D-printed metals is the question, how many recycling steps can the powder undergo without significant changes in a quality of the printed product. This project aims at tracing the effect of subsequent reusing the original metallic powder on various kinds of material “quality metrics”. The major concern is to find out how are the powder and the printed material affected by recycling and to what extent. Both the material mechanical and structural aspects will be emphasized. We will focus on the effect of recycling on high- and lowcycle mechanical properties, which are mentioned in the literature inadequately to their importance. Their evolution will be quantified by both conventional and progressive methods, which may be highly effective in assessing the powder condition (thermal response, digital image correlation, advanced approach to detecting the plastic anisotropy).
