Better efficiency and greater savings in the context of operation and maintenance are promised at Maxion Wheels after experts from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering helped them to optimise the design of the wheel carrier on the rope conveyor. Doctors Lukáš Hruzík and Miroslav Trochta from the Department of Machine Parts and Mechanisms are behind the innovation, which is already being used in practice.

The cooperation between the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Maxion Wheels, a company specializing in the production of automotive wheels, consisted of topological optimization of the wheel carrier on the rope conveyor. The experts succeeded in making it significantly lighter. While the original design of the carrier weighed almost twenty-five kilograms, the optimized carrier is not even twelve kilograms. In total, the rope conveyor track has been lightened by more than two tonnes, which represents a weight saving of roughly half. This makes the entire system more efficient and more economical to maintain and operate.
