Students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering successfully participated in an international workshop in Gliwice

During a four-day workshop organized by Sun-Moon University and Silesian University of Technology, students from different majors and nationalities joined forces to complete a prototype developed on the topic of future mobility. The students worked remotely at first - they have been meeting online since the beginning of September. Then they met in person in Gliwice, where they had the task of finalizing their ideas and defending them in front of an expert jury. The programme also included teambuilding, a tour of the Silesian University of Technology campus and a visit to nearby industrial enterprises. Nine students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and one student from the Faculty of Economics participated from VSB-TUO.

On the final day of the workshop, VSB-TUO also participated in the organisation with a lecture by Jan Adam Plaček Köhle, manager of the Greenlight programme, who spoke about his experience of supporting startup activities in the Moravian-Silesian region.

The first place went to the team whose member was Pavel Čelovský, a PhD student of the Department of Automation Engineering and Control at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Together with Korean and Polish students, he participated in the development of a prototype that utilized optimal parking space (project Developing a smart valet parking system that utilizes optimal space).

Two teams shared second place. The first team, which included Yuliya Tkachenko, a third-year student in the Industrial Design programme, presented a project called Mobility on stairs and roads. The second team presented the result of the Artficial key user project and the awardees included Phu Ma Quoc, a recent graduate in Applied Mechanics and current PhD student working at the Protolab 3D Printing Centre.

Congratulations to the students on their awards and thanks to all involved for the quality representation of the faculties and the university during the stimulating international event. The students also thank the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for supporting the event.
