Global Startup Camp 2023 has its winners

Global Startup Camp 2023 has its winners
At the end of May, the Department of Applied Mechanics in cooperation with the Technical University of Korea organized an event called Global Startup Camp 2023. Six teams consisting of Korean and Czech students were given the opportunity to compare their design skills and compete for the best project.

The aim of the three-day workshop was to learn about the Korean intuitive way of creating a product story - from the initial idea to the business plan (image thinking workshop). Students tried the method on their own design projects, which they worked on together for several months. They met in person in Ostrava, where they had the task of finalizing their ideas and defending them in front of an expert jury. The programme also included teambuilding, a campus tour and an exhibition of works by students of the four-year Bachelor's programme Industrial Design, which is taught thanks to the cooperation between VŠB-TUO and Palacký University in Olomouc.

The workshop was very beneficial for the students of the new study programme in particular, as they could meet future designers from another country and compare their skills. The lecture by Jan Adam Plaček Köhle, manager of the Greenlight programme, who spoke about his experience in supporting startup activities in the Moravian-Silesian Region, was also considered valuable by the students.

The first place went to a team consisting of Applied Mechanics students René Souček and Martin Groh and Korean students Dong Gwan Koo, Doo Hee Kim, Ji Hye Jang. Together they created a project called Air body care.

The team that presented a project called AI based fire evacuation and fire fighting mobility won the second place. The members of the awarded team were industrial design students Ondřej Toušek and Rostislav Svoboda together with Korean students Yeon Woo Ko, Su Min Lee, Young Gwan Kim.

The bronze was taken by Industrial Design students Klára Olšanská and Ivana Vlčová, who formed a team with Korean students Ye Jin In, Ji Ho Shin, Hyeon Seong Han, Seong Gyu Kang. Their project was called A diaper changing aid for children.

Congratulations to the students for the award and thank you for your inspiring ideas. Thanks also to all the participants, namely: colleagues from South Korea Jooho Lee (Sun-Moon University), Eok Kim (Technical University of Korea) and Isik Chae (Image Thinking), Vice-Rector Jiří Stavovčík from Palacký University in Olomouc, committee members Petr Večeřa (CTO, profiq s. r.o.), Michal Václavovič (CEO, Mercury MS), Tamara Buganská (designer and lecturer of the Industrial Design programme) and Petr Sehnoutek (FMST VSB-TUO). We would also like to thank our colleagues from the Department of Robotics, the Institute of Transportation and the Department of Materials and Technologies for Automotive for their engaging presentation of the laboratories to the international visitors and last but not least all the members of the Department of Applied Mechanics for their important support throughout the workshop.

On behalf of the organizers
