The Department of Machining, Assembly and Engineering Metrology is a specialized workplace for the branch “Engineering Technology” in bachelor, masters and doctoral study programmes in full-time and part-time forms. The Department teaching profile is determined for the teaching of subjects, which the Department guarantees. Each of the teachers is profiled according to his/her specialization. The systematic preparation of all teachers is drawn up for increasing their scientific-teaching level. A number of teachers have rich experience with previous work in industry and have current, active close cooperation with industrial companies not only with Moravian-Silesian Region. The younger teachers are sent out to work in non-teaching periods to draw from practical knowledge. Most teachers actively participate in lectures at foreign universities around all of Europe and in the framework of the projects LLP/Erasmus and CEEPUS.

Profile

The Department of Machining, Assembly and Engineering Metrology co-operates with companies, especially from the North Moravian-Silesian Region. Among the most fundamental projects is co-operation in determining the index of machinability of newly developed structural steels for Třinecké železárny Třinec, Vítkovice Steel and co-operation with toolshed from all over the Czech Republic. Students actively participate in all projects, especially doctoral students and students in their final years.

The centre of co-operation with foreign universities is focused especially on Slovakia, Poland, Croatia, Hungary and Romania. Co-operation has also developed with many other important universities in the Central European Region. Teachers participate in important conferences abroad for young scientific staff with the support of the Moravian-Silesian Region.

The Department is prepared for solving problems connected with industrial work especially through the very good technical preparation of its teachers. There is the Laboratory of Conventional machining and Multi-professions, the Laboratory of Machining with CNC machines and CAD/CAM classrooms, which are suitable for training of staff from working spheres. There is further available the standard-equipped Laboratory of Metrology and the Laboratory of Tools with Digital Microscopes for measuring tool wear and similar parameters. And not least of all the Laboratory of Assembly is being developed.
