Summary
The aim of the project is to develop a hybrid technology for manufacturing metal-ceramic composites with directional properties using plastic consolidation and SPD methods. The input materials will be chips made of Cu, Al, Mg, Nb, and their alloys, as well as ceramic powders of Al2O3 and ZrO2, hereinafter referred to as M-CER. The proposed method involves cold densification of M-CER with varying ceramic powder content (0–20%), followed by extrusion using an innovative rotating die method (KOBO) at ambient and elevated temperatures. Extruded semi-finished products of various shapes will be tested for their mechanical properties (uniaxial tensile testing), hardness, shape, and dimensions (3D optical scanning), microstructure (optical and scanning microscopy), phase analysis (EBSD, XRD), and porosity (computed tomography). The semi-finished products obtained from the extrusion processes will be processed into flat bars using the rolling method on a quarter-turn mill. The flat bars will then be subjected to selected SPD processes, Dual Rolls Equal Channel Extrusion (DRECE), Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP), and Twist Channel Angular Pressing (TCAP) methods under various deformation conditions. The resulting components will be tested for mechanical properties (uniaxial tensile testing), hardness, shape and dimensions (optical 3D scanning), abrasion resistance (T 05 tester), microstructure (optical and scanning microscopy), phase analysis (EBSD, XRD), and porosity (computed tomography). The project aligns with the Circular Economy philosophy. Measurable benefits of the project include the management of post-production waste from the machining process and its recycling for reuse, in order to expand the product range in the form of rods, sheets, and flat bars.
