Summary
The aim of the project is to transfer the potential of microalgae directly into the urban environment through the integration of photobioreactors (PBRs) into urban furniture elements (e.g. benches, public transport shelters or information panels). These systems, referred to as “ArtificialTree”, serve as artificial trees with microalgae and enable active air purification, CO2 fixation and the production of valuable biomass. A fluid with microalgae flows through these innovative structures, allowing for efficient CO2 fixation, dust particle reduction and the production of biomaterials such as algae powder as a dietary supplement. At the same time, the microalgae contribute to cooling the environment by converting solar energy into biomass instead of overheating urban surfaces.
